Lawrence and Sweeney in a Volkswagen Golf failed to negotiate a left turn and struck a tree on the outside of the turn by the codriver's side of the car. The driver Mark Lawrence suffered a fractured collar bone. The codriver Eamonn Sweeney was unconscious after the accident, the extent of his injuries is a sprained knee. The other competitors and the organizer jointly decided to stop the event.
