The rally was so difficult. On Friday, we knew if we were in the top-five or -six we would be really happy. But we also knew this is not the event where the fastest guy wins; it would be the smartest. We managed to do the rally without any issues. It's been a great effort from the team so we're very happy. Now it looks interesting for the championship. We'll keep pushing.
I'm quite satisfied. The main thing was to get second place in the rally. It's great for the team – absolutely fantastic.
"Really happy to be on the podium for the first time this year. It's been a tough rally and weekend for the team."
"It's been a great weekend. My first target was to try and manage the car and I did. We need some more pace to fight for the podium next year."
"It was very important to take the manufacturers' points and not risk anything. I took it very safe and drove clever."
"It was completely flat out. I knew there was not so much we could do because I think we are missing some pace but I did everything I could do with a puncture on the rear left. "
"One of the toughest rallies I've experienced during my career. It wasn't easy but this is part of the game."
"That was absolutely flat out. We are fighting for the championship with some hard guys to beat but we deserved the win to be honest. We were leading the rally and were by far the fastest. But a small issue meant we stopped. I'm disappointed for the whole team but we win together and we lose together."
"The driving wasn't so bad but it was more slippery than expected. I think it's a positive end to a quite disastrous weekend."
"We had some good luck and some bad luck here. But that's five wins in a row this season and the title is really close."
"We are really happy. It was a really hard rally with difficult stages for us and the car. I'm quite happy with our pace and the result."
"It's been an unbelievable experience. It's my first WRC event in an R5 car so to do this is incredible. The strategy paid off!"
SS16
We'll see if we will be able to claim some extra points in there.
Everything is fine. Just getting to the finish is all it's about today.
"It's not what we wanted to do but there is only one objective for us. We're going to push now in the Power Stage and see what we can do."
"We have to try everything. We know we are missing some pace compared to the Hyundai. We know it will be hard to win the Power Stage but we have to try everything."
"We were asked by the team to do it. That's all really."
"I have to say, you have to put some energy into your concentration. To step down on the rhythm, you really have to work with it."
"It's a about playing the long game in this rally. When you're in 'no man's land' it can be really hard because you have to look after the car. It can be really painful but it's what you have to do."
"I have been trying to be safe but it's hard to drive safely with the good rhythm. We have one stage to go and we bring the car home."

"The feeling with the car is good with the same set-up as Friday which was nice. There was no driving for me yesterday so I relaxed so I can build up the power today."
"Every point is important. We look forward and we go for the Power Stage points."
"I think it's pretty short today. It was hard to accept yesterday's problems as we fought so hard and I made such a silly mistake on a slow corner. The only explanation I have is that my brain wasn't working properly for a short time."
"It's just a case of getting through."
"I'm focused hard. Let's see how it goes. It looks like Jari-Matti doesn't want to slow down too much!"
"We're playing safe – our tactic is to be smart."
"The plan is to just cruise. But even when you're taking it easy there's still a lot of things that can happen with the big rocks on the road. You need to stay absolutely focused."
"It was a nice stage – it has a bit of everything. It will be a challenging one for the Power Stage."
"We go full safety mode today. It's very important to salvage the points. No risk. Proper Sunday cruise."
SS13
puncture
I knew before the stage that my tyres were worse than his. With what I had, I'm quite satisfied with the job I did.
power steering issue
"If we'd had a run like this yesterday, it probably would be looking pretty good. We've just tried to look after the car today, as little risk as possible but still keep a nice rhythm. Okay, it's been frustrating at times, but we're here with no trouble."
"Let's see where Jari-Matti comes, but this has been quite a surprising rally. A lot happening but we knew it would be tough. We didn't have performance so we just had to keep it on the road - and that's what we've been doing."
"We just stuck to our plan, kept doing the same thing and it's working. We'll drop some time here because our rear tyres were nearly bald. I said I'd try a different approach here. I've learned from my mistakes, going off too hard and too fast, it's difficult to hold back, but it's working."
"Fourth place is pretty good but it's been a tough day. It's been pretty safe, but okay young drivers always want more pace! This part of the learning."
SS12
"I have no idea what happened. We had a bit of smoke in the stage (SS11), and we stopped several times to check there was no fire. There was nothing. Every time we stopped the smoke went down, so we thought it was just heat. It was the same again at the end of the stage. When we stopped it cooled down, all the heat had dispersed from the centre of the car and we thought everything was fine. Then it [the fire] just flew up from the rear right."
"With Andreas' problems maybe I'll gain one more place. I'm happy with everything this weekend. Still more stages to go, so I'm concentrating on keeping the car on the road and no punctures!"
"I must have put the wishbone on right, otherwise it would have fallen off!"
"The car is fine now, it was just overheating, now it is working really, really well. I thought I drove carefully here, so the time is a surprise. It seems the other drivers were more careful. Let's wait until the end of the day before we think about team orders."
"On this event anything can happen and you have to stay focused. I sacrificed this stage, with only slick tyres at the rear from the previous stage. Now for the long one we have nice tyres so I hope we can have a good run there."
'It's amazing out there. We're trying to keep a clean, smooth rally. It doesn't matter what Andreas does. The tyres are getting quite worn now so we're taking it easy."
"Just driving through. Of course I try to keep the pace and do as good a job as possible. Still we are missing a bit. Fourth or fifth place would be okay."

SS11
Incredible the conditions on the stage. We had a rear puncture and hydraulic pressure problems. Now we are losing time. Let's see what the hydraulic pressure does.

"Really hard on the tyres, you could feel them change at about 15 km. I didn't manage them the best."
"I have no idea. A couple of kilometres in we began to get smoke in the car. Later I had to stop because I physically couldn't see. We have to go and take a look now."
hydraulics problem
off road
"It was clean, a narrow clean line. A lot of tyre wear though, I was trying to save the tyres."

Tough, but I'm just trying to go through with a good rhythm. One of these days we'll be back with a good road position and I can go hammer and tongs.
broken driveshaft, only rear wheel drive
"I thought I would never make it. We struggled so much to put the wishbone back - it was just too tight in the subframe. I fought like hell, I was so close to giving up because I had no energy. I thought I would have to do the stage in rear-wheel drive. I was very surprised that it worked. Not every bolt was tight there was a question mark whether it would hold."
"It was a big fight. We made it at the last minute and I'm happy to be here!"
"Everything to play for. I tried to give it some more in this stage - hopefully we can make a bit of a difference."
"I tried, but this stage was difficult to remember. I should have watched it yesterday evening. Instead, I was concentrating too much on the first stage."
"I picked up a steering column issue on the previous stage, this stage was better, I can drive."
off road
"Tough, but I'm just trying to go through with a good rhythm. One of these days we'll be back with a good road position and I can go hammer and tongs!"
SS9
"The engine stalled in one of the hairpins. I don't know why it stalled, I wasn't in the wrong gear. That cost about four seconds. It could have been good - it was an important stage for us."
"I'm trying to drive like I feel, fast but within my limits. It's tricky with so many stones coming out - the second pass will be tricky for sure. I'm trying to keep the pressure on. I'm really sorry for Thierry. They were going at an incredible speed and taking some risks."
"I don't know, I have something broken."
broken steering arm
"We need to keep going. We are fourth so we cannot be happy."
"We stalled the car coming down to the hairpins, lost a few seconds there. It's very loose and on the medium tyres we've lose the balance of the car a bit."
"A nice view close to the end? A lot of loose gravel, very twisty. I don't know. I'm frustrated, but you can only laugh. There is always something."
"I missed a hairpin and had to reverse. Not a good morning but I tried my best."
"It was an okay stage for me. A lot of loose gravel and I struggled on downhill braking, but we were okay."
SS8
"Something has broken but I think we didn't hit anything."
"I think I had a good stage but I was struggling for grip."
stopped, turbo?
"I had some moments early in the stage. My pace notes were too aggressive, I don't know why. After that I had to ease off."
"The car doesn't turn, I'm really struggling,"
suspension problem
"The target is to perform, still it's pretty difficult, hard to enjoy. Let's say I don't have full control yet."
"It's a different rally compared to yesterday. A lot looser and no rocks or things to avoid. I'm trying to be really tidy but I can feel I'm losing time in the twisty stuff. Something to work on."
"It's the same problem as always. The car doesn't downshift, we stall and then it doesn't restart."
"I heard a pace note wrong - a right not a left - I had to spin the car. I stalled, then had to turn the car around. Not great."
"A lot of cleaning I think. A lot of loose gravel - wheelspin in third and fourth gears. The road was smooth, not rough at all, but lots of loose gravel."
SS7

Really tough conditions. We're driving to a plan and trying to preserve the car but it is frustrating to see the other crews going so fast when taking risks.
"There is a lot of things I've learnt, but then there are things where I should be better. It's homework for next year."
"I had another puncture on the last stage, so we had three completely destroyed tyres and one that was relatively okay."
"It has not been an easy day, but at the end of the day we've had no problems. I think we'll end up about 16sec off the lead which is not too bad."
"I had really, really bad tyres on this last stage. So I did a good stage time with the tyres I had left!"
"On the long one I had a horrible set-up, then I made opposite changes and that got better. I went lower on the rear suspension for this stage."
"I did something very different now, it is working here but it is something we can't use in the rough. I went lower in the ride height."
"It is close. Nice to be here honestly. For us, the only shame is the dust in the morning which cost us a lot of seconds but I am generally happy for my day."
"I had to put it in reverse gear so I lost more or less 6 or 7 seconds in the stage. Ogier had a good run through on the first stage but then we pulled it back on the second."
SS6
rear-left puncture, no spare
I was just a bit carefully. There was two cars I had to slow down a bit for. When I drive flat out I can go well, but I have never been in these conditions before so I don't know the limit on the tyres or the cars.
"It is obviously just the way it. The conditions are quite bad and it is hard to drive. You just have to play the sensible game."
"Stopped in the stage."
changed puncture
"Mads and Elfyn both off, I had to slow down quite a bit for the both of them. It's an absolutle war zone. I'm just trying to enjoy it now."
broken suspension

"I must say, Thierry had an amazing stage. When it is very loose then maybe our car isn't the best to drive in these conditions. When it is cleaner and faster our car is very good. But the rally is very long so let's see what will happen."
"We had a rear-right wheel issue. It looks like I was being too careful as well."
"I'm doing all that I can, but I cannot do any better. I know what is wrong, but I don't want to say! I have a hunch but cannot fix it!"
"It is a high-grip road but we have absolutely no grip. Even worse than in the morning, difficult to understand."
"We are now I guess very close to each other. I didn't expect it to be so tough in this one. In these conditions anything can happen."
"In the tough parts you have to push to get a good time. Ogier surprised us by pushing a lot harder than expected so we had to respond."
SS5

changed a puncture
"Anything can happen in any moment. Okay it can all happen for everyone. We changed two wheels at the same time, both on the front so we have no spares."
Incredible rough, testament to the cars to hold up to it. Toughest conditions I've been in. Some guys are taking some risks, I take my hat off to them.
"Slow puncture. I was in the middle of the road. I was praying it wouldn't go down and then it just went. I don't believe it. I did 25km with a puncture."
"That was a good time, but the stage is crazy bumpy. A lot of hits to the car and the body, I hope my stomach is okay! The car is working really nicely in the rough places, it is really strong."
puncture
I think I have a slight idea of how it happened. Just from the road, just a little bit shocked about what I just experienced. Impossible to judge what I'm trying to do.
changed puncture
"I don't know how it happened. It was extremely rough in the middle and then it deteriorated."
stopped
"For us the traction was better than in the morning loop, but it was so, so rough in some places. But I am satisfied with the time."
"We were taking it so careful in there, it is so tricky. It is really hard to judge how rough it is, you just have to count on experience!"
"It went worse, we had a lot less grip than in the morning. It seems the changes I made don't work at all. I can't drive at all."
"Just not our rally."
"That's good! Without dust the stage is much more enjoyable. Really, really, bumpy. In this section whatever you do there is risks for sure."
stalled in hairpin
SS4
"This stage was really technical, really twisty, all the way down from the start to the finish. Maybe the softer compound would be better because it is very slippy now."
"Everything looks okay visual. We'll check it out with the guys back in service. I thought this stage went alright but then the time isn't great. Not getting any gain with the road condition."
"There is no knowledge of how hard we can drive the car in these conditions. These cars are taking a lot of hits but there is a limit - I just hope I don't find it on this rally."
"Just a little bit too cautious in places. I'm just concious this Friday curse is hanging around. I had a big impact at the start on the front-left and I thought I might have had a puncture but everything seems okay."
"The stage is okay, a little bit smoother. The soft tyre of Andreas can help him in here. The time is not so bad, the conditions are quite unpredictable. It is about tuning the driving for the different stages. I'm surprised about the lack of drama so far."
"We were told to carry on. Reminds me of the R2 days, so some good memories at least!"
"I don't understand. I thought I had a good run. I don't have a chance. I'm absolutely amazed. Lacking grip is one issue."
"I think the last stage made the difference, I really tried to save them on that one. I think mediums were the correct choice."
"This one was quite smooth roads, nothing too special."
"I need to be faster, but I cannot be. I don't have any grip. I was on the clean line, but I can't do any better. The time wasn't good."
"We tried, but we didn't have the best conditions for us in the morning. The dust on the first stage wasn't great, on the second stage we tried to push but Thierry went even faster."
"I feel this stage was my best, less big stones on the road but more sand."
SS3
rear differential problem
power steering issues
"Quite difficult stages. The second stage I did a few changes to help with the driving. But it is a long day."
"Really rough, it's not really sweeping. There are some big rocks on the top. The car felt weird on this one, like something is broken or I've bent the rear arm or something."
"It is really tough, but the beginning of the stage was better than the one before. The car is working nicely but I'm struggling with the pace."
"Worse than I expected since the recce, I backed off quite a bit. Rhythm was okay at the start. There is still quite a long way to go."
"It is getting tough, the start is quite nice but the end is not so easy. The times are quite close, which surprises quite a bit on a stage like that."
"We have an issue, we're going to look at it now. I don't know what it is."
"I started to back off, I didn't very, very well at the end. I was too cautious towards the end. That's where all the time was lost."
"I tried to save the tyres a bit for the next stage so we'll see what I can do there. The stage is very bumpy, I think the second pass will be extra challenging. I'm trying to be a bit cautious when I can."
"It gets really tough in the end, I wanted to be safe and get through to the end. Clearly I was too slow, but what can I do?"
"It seems when it gets rough I can't any grip. It is skipping on the big stones and not really absorbing anything."
"It was okay because it was later in the day - there was not as much dust on this one. I tried, I don't know why we were slower than Thierry."
"It's horrible conditions to be first on the road. There are no lines and the wheels are spinning. It is more dry on this one, I try to do a good stage, the feeling was quite okay but there is a huge amount of cleaning."
SS2
It is really bad. It is damp quite from the rain but we're just driving with a cruising balance. I think we need to adjust the car a little bit for some of the corners.
It was very careful. So careful in the beginning, the next stage should be cleaner so I'll push on that one.
"No problems. It is difficult to find a driving rhythm when there are a lot of rocks. I was looking after the tyres as well, but now we are a lot of time behind the fastest time."
off road
stopped
"It is quite tricky, especially now because there is no wind at all. In some places I was completely lost in the dust even despite the three minute gap. No big push as this rally is really long."
"Really difficult, as I'm sure everyone is saying. It is really hard to gauge the speed when it is so tricky. Nice to come in and know we've not dropped a whole lot."
"Flat to the square, right! I came to the end and I didn't even know what minute I was on. It was just a survivors stage, keeping it in the middle. Just listening to what Scott says and hope for the best!"
"I struggled a lot in the dust. I cannot clear my window, it just leaves like a blue film on the screen. With the dust I couldn't clean it off and I lost the rhythm. The feeling was okay."
"We lost the intercom initially, we managed to get that back. In the dust I could see nothing and I just went into the bank. On the intercom I felt a small impact and it went off, and then Dan fiddled with the connections and we got it back."
"It is quite okay, but a lot of dust. I was struggling to see. It started at 8km and carried on until almost 30km."
"I don't see anything, there were some sections in there you had to stop. I hope we get a bigger gap for the next one."
"Let's say the last 10km were nice, really nice. But the beginning was so slippy, and in the middle it was like a wall of dust. There are so many rocks on the side of the road."
"It is so much dust. Really no chance to drive. So much dust in many, many places."
"So much dust! We cannot see anything, only the start and end is damp. The rest has really bad dust. At least I'm happy to only lose 5sec, I was expecting to lose 20 or more."
"First we had the fire alarm in the hotel in the morning and we had to evacuate. Then to start the day with this test is demanding. At a few points we had to really slow down. Our car works well in these conditions, but I could have done better."
SS1
"We need to be very clever and try to survive, that is the key point for everyone here. I'm trying to save the tyres here because we might need them for later in the rally."
"I had a massive kick on the jump and I couldn't brake for the corner."
"We would like to somehow enjoy this rally. The conditions will be really tricky but hopefully we are ready for this."
"Really looking forward to it, hopefully our luck has changed now and we can have a good event. That would be nice."
"The rally is very different, it will be very rough. But it should be a very nice weekend."
